The big one, a lot of people have been waiting for this for a very long time. Having earned around about £500,000,000 in its first 24hrs you know Rockstar have outdone themselves. Lately I’ve needed a distraction, I’ve been pretty social because of that, my journey of distraction took my to my friend’s house whom had acquired the game within the first few hours of release. There are a lot of people who will line up outside of a store for a midnight release, I am no one of those people. I’ll would rather wait a few days or a week to avoid crowds of entitled 13-17 year olds. As you can guess we spent the entire night playing the game and it struck me enough to go out and buy a game, something I haven’t done since Hitman Absolution was released.

Since that hazy evening in a small East-London maisonette I was determined to get this game and believe me it cleared the shelves quicker than I had imagined, I actually had to make calls regarding availability to avoid traveling miles to get it. All my local stores had either closed down or were sold out. It took almost five days to acquire but it was totally worth it. I found the missions interesting, the characters endearing (yes even the raging psychopath) and Rockstar hasn’t lost its trademark wit. This game has had me go wtf, laugh my ass off and generally lose hours to it. This is the first game in years to completely live up to the hype surrounding it. As I said before Rockstar have outdone themselves.

I’ve played the introduction and a few later missions, It wasn’t exactly my intention to play the later missions but when it’s 3am and your friend is sleeping because he’s got a hard day busting his ass in construction, what can you do? I wasn’t going to walk home for another few hours and I certainly wasn’t going to sit quietly in the dark or watch shitty television. So I had little choice, I really can’t stand boredom and this game definitely alleviates it. It is because this game is so good at killing time that I haven’t steamrolled through it yet. My little slice of hell is long and slow so I need all the distractions I can get.

gFPFiFyThis picture describes the cops on this game perfectly, they are fucking robocops alone and even worse in numbers greater than two. These cops are damn near omniscient. Then again people would have complained if the cops were easily slaughtered. The AI improvements are amazing and even though they are amazingly efficient the game is realistic enough to allow you to attempt to hide from police rather than fight them so I guess the real world physics and tactics make up for the fact that you’re being tailed by about 8 terminators.

The living world in this game is amazing, I’ve already been brutalized by a cougar after escaping from police in Blaine County. I’ve seen enough of the terrain to say that this entire game is visually beautiful. I also enjoy how random happenings can coincide with a crime you’re committing or just your journey from A to B. I’ve been stripped, robbed and woke up naked on train tracks with all my stuff gone. It is an interesting little touch that the protagonist can become a victim of crime themselves at any one point. The living world will give you about as much shit as you have given it. There will be a few moments where the game will take you completely by surprise.

My single complaint about it is the car problem where your personally modified vehicle disappears from your garage. This was quite annoying to me but apparently Rockstar are working at a fix if they haven’t come up with one already.  My general consensus on GTA V is that it is well worth your money wherever you are in the world, even places like AUS where prices are extortionate. This game was worth the wait and definitely worth parting with your money.

Xbox One vs PS4

Is it me or was E3 surprisingly short this year? Seriously, I don’t know. It seems much shorter than last year. I’ve heard a lot of different reasons for this like Microsoft pulled funding from E3 after their console flopped. That could just be Microsoft haters hating. I don’t even know who funds E3. In fact I don’t know too much about E3. I just catch it every to see what games I can look forward too. I went through a stage of playing very few games and buying even fewer. I thought it was just me growing up and getting older but it seems it was just my slump and lack of money. With my job problem solved I’ve been replaying fallout 3. I’ve got my woman to thank for that, she reminded me how much I loved the vidya. Yup… I got a gamer. I’m lucky I’ve been told.

Lets take a little walk down memory lane right back to the Xbox, before the Xbox came out I had owned a PlayStation, PlayStation one and PlayStation 2. The Xbox looked awesome but most of all it had Halo on it, due to a summer playing that game with friends I wanted to own it. I could have brought an Xbox but around the same time I discovered a social life and other things so I never bothered, with all the issues the Xbox had I’m glad I didn’t. I waited long enough that the Xbox 360 and even longer to avoid the problems with the 360, it all paid off. To be honest I’ve been happy with my Xbox 360 experience. I’ve gone through two since about six months after it came out and I’ve played some great games on it. Never got live because I didn’t really care for paying for it. It’s kinda sad to think about this but I brought the Xbox 360 for Halo…

Enter the PS3, I should have gotten one earlier but as usual no money, waited out any issues it had and yeah never got around to it due to spending money traveling and such. I’m going to be buying one in little under a month for a few reasons. I’ve missed a whole generation of titles that I’ve always loved for example Metal Gear Solid, Kojima’s games were always masterpieces I enjoyed the depth and the story telling/cinematic were amazing. I’ve been a stealth freak since Tenchu Stealth Assassins in the 90’s. Anyway back to the point, free online because why should I have to pay for a 12-year-old homophobe to scream profanities at me and cry like a little girl when his mother/father catch him? Another great thing is Sony isn’t full of tight-fisted SOB’s who won’t let you share games, great thing about having a girlfriend who is a ps3 gamer is that she can send you a hell of a lot of games! The final thing is that most people I know moved to ps3 after owning an Xbox. Finally Battlefield>Call of duty. That is all.

I loved Halo but I think I’ve grown out of it, I didn’t even play Halo 4 and now that nobody owns and Xbox anymore I doubt I ever will. I love a lot of games on Xbox but they are available on a better console in most cases. I’m always going to go with the better choice, the one that most benefits me and the better service. The things I’ve previously mentioned plus The Xbox one’s total flop at E3 was the last nail in the coffin for me. I’m going back to Sony begging for forgiveness. Telling her I made a mistake and I can change. My friends have been recommending the ps3 to me for sometime their main reason include:

>Battlefield (read in a dey turk our jrrrbs voice, so like burrrtlefiiiilld!)
>Far less 12 year-old children.
>PlayStation Network won’t kill you for modding.
>Shared games
>Old titles I love. (soft coercion)
>Free PSN.

Those reasons were enough for me to consider it after about a year of them banging on about it. So yeah I’m purchasing a ps3. My reasoning may be cheap but the benefits outweigh the cost and any cons if there are any. Now more on E3. Sony nailed it as evidenced by amazon pre-order sales. So lets look at how the Xbox one flopped. To begin, the design of the console and control are lazy and seemed to have regressed, there’s nothing about it that impresses me if anything it’s too big. Another thing is that you cannot play games from the previous generation on it, something Sony have had down since the PlayStation 2, I don’t know if this is Microsoft trying to create an Apple style monopoly forcing you to buy more of their products for compatibility reasons. This move was widely rejected by the gaming community, I mean only one company could get away with that sort of shit, Apple. Bad move Microsoft, strike one.

You can’t share games, again Sony have nailed this one. Tell me how, in a whole console generation, Microsoft haven’t caught onto this great idea. Nobody will buy games you say? People are more likely to try and buy more games due to the limited capacity of memory and the fact that people like to own something physical. A shorter one which I don’t really think is too bad but still frowned upon is that they made their console so that it has to be connected to the internet and yet they still expect you to pay their online fee, sure they’ve added TV and such but I’d rather go watch my actual TV that I’ve already payed for. For most this feature is useless and does nothing to retract from this massive flop. Yet another massive mistake was Microsoft making you check in online once every 24 hours , what about those of us who have work and you know…lives? The more I see about the next generation of Xbox console the more I’m convinced it’s for kids. There’s also a little issue with not being able to utilize the complete memory capacity of your console. That’s sure to piss people off.

Now my final gripe, the real bullet in the back of the Xbox One is the Kinect. I always hated this thing, I’d never use one and I’ve been against this sort of thing since the WII. Even they seem to have stepped up their game while Microsoft stumbled through E3. I’ve seen my girlfriend use her Kinect but she even prefers the PS3 over the Xbox. As far as I’m aware most gamers, casual and hardcore rejected the Kinect and yet Microsoft dump more money into it and make it essential when they could have used that money for better features or whatever, just something to improve the sorry state of their new console. Over than that there’s the issue of privacy, this couldn’t have come at a worse time for Microsoft with the NSA whistle-blower and people realizing their private lives are not so private. A device you can be monitored on being on and connected to the internet at all times could be used to record you. This feature was bound to cause backlash in the first place, the whole NSA thing is just fuel on a fire.

Xbox is done for most gamers, especially adults. There are Xbox fan boys who will stay with Xbox, if you can settle for a sub-par product because of loyalty or stupidity good for you. You might say I’m fan-boying here but that’s not the case. Remember I don’t even own a PS3 yet. I will get a PS4 but I’m going to wait out any issues, plus the PS3 has enough games to keep me busy for a long time.  Talking of issues with the console Sony’s PS3 didn’t have half the issues that were faced by the Xbox due to poor quality materials and manufacture. I’m sure Xbox one owners will be enjoying their red rings for the first six months of their purchase. Another personal gripe of mine is with my favorite game/series Fallout. Fallout has its flaws, it can be a buggy game but I love it, see? I’m willing to forgive flaws and imperfections… Anyway the loading screens for Xbox are amazingly long. I recognize that Fallout is a big game but it seems the Xbox can’t handle it where I’ve seen nowhere near the same amount of problems with Xbox.

I consider this a fair review, maybe you don’t. It just seems to me that Sony is more in-tune with the demands of their user-base than Microsoft, this is evidenced by their replies to the concerns of gamers. Sony seems to care more about its customers. They’ve made their share of mistakes but they’ve always made up for them and settled them with fairness as far as I’m aware. Of the two products and services offered the PS4 and Sony in general are the best choice for someone who likes to game minus the bullshit. Microsoft needs a miracle, it’s a good thing they have the funds they do. A mistake this huge can and has put companies out of business. Hey Microsoft… do try not to turn into Apple because I still love your computers and OS.

It’s funny how a blackout brings the community together…

From about 7.20pm to 12.30am we experienced a blackout, it had started at around about 5pm for most people but it seems we were lucky. I was sitting back playing Xbox 360 and a neighbor came over complaining that her power was out, her complaining was no oddity but she had asked to use our phone to call the energy company and have somebody sent out to deal with the problem. I stayed indoors away from her tedious conversation and played my Xbox 360 with no issues at all proceeding to ignore her in the hope that she would go away while my sisters brain was being fried by the endless stream of crap flowing freely from her mouth. She eventually went away and a short while after this our power went out completely.

It’s funny how when your television goes out you don’t really care, when your phone goes out it is a minor inconvenience but when your Internet goes out shit gets real. Suddenly you’re cut off from the world, this wouldn’t usually be an issue for me. I could read a book but the power was out completely and reading by candle light, though romantic, is not my thing. To make matters worse our cooker is electric so dinner is off the table. Waiting for pay day we have little money available to just go buy food but a freezer full of defrosting food that we can’t even cook. Couldn’t even pass the time with a beer or two. I listened to the neighbors talking back and forth about the electric company’s time estimates and when their power went out. The Energy company had drove out to survey the damage then left promptly.

Realizing how royally fucked I was I went into the garden to talk to my mother, her colleague and my sister who was laying on the granite paving reading. She’s a strange child. After talking with them for a while, here is where it gets interesting, I went out to the shops to go get a load of fries and cheap food for us to eat. On my journey I came across a group of neighbors discussing what went on and how they’ve got no power, the woman who usually bores me with conversation and never lets me leave decided to stop me. The group began talking about the Polish people living across the street and maintained that it was their fault for messing with the wiring, probably because they’ve been working on their house a lot.

They burn things in their back garden, I can understand that, It’d bother me more if I lived next door but I don’t so I don’t really care. They also work on the house pretty early and drill but it doesn’t warrant accusing them of destroying the power lines. People got into their little groups and it sounded like they were planning a lynching moaning that even if they did do it they wouldn’t have to pay because they’re Polish. They annoyed me by this point, especially considering they had no proof at all. The Energy company said the rains caused the wires to be surrounded by sludge contributing to them warming up and melting, also sending charge back to the house of the Polish people. At this point I didn’t care anymore. I just wanted a cup of tea, that was the number one complaint, people couldn’t make any tea. A decent neighbor made us a few cups which passed the time.

They spoke of a black puff of smoke had apparently from over in that direction and the power going out, it fried the Polish people’s electric mains control panel costing them around £300. After hearing these people talk shit about their neighbors for 15 minutes I left walking past the Electric company’s worker who was sipping tea, sitting on his ass waiting for them to dig up the cables. We were originally given an estimate of 3 to 4 hours, it took all in all around about 7. Anyway, I got retrieve what I laughably considered a meal. On the way up there I noticed that half of the block had lost power, with the other lamps around it all being on our area looked like the twilight zone. I hit home, go my food on a plate and sat outside to eat in the summer evening only to move back inside after being accosted by mosquitoes and being bitten 8 times.

The night kept getting better and better. I kept getting more and more bored until I saw two associates of mine outside talking, so I head on out to join them. Anything is better than being stuck inside with no power at all. We sat and talked outside for a while smoking cigarettes and commiserating about how our local area is dead and nobody comes around any more, it was at least bearable conversation. I think I had started to get used to the power outage. We also shared stories of what we were doing when the power went out which was okay. We began planning going on a little trip because one of my friends had to pick something up from his cousin’s place. We never ended up going though.

We thought of parting ways but for some reason ended up staying, talking some more and ripping on my friends mother for talking to everyone about everything for so long and how you can never get away from her. Yes the tediously boring lady is my friend’s mother. Eventually we headed down the bottom of the cul-de-sac to find his mother talking the workmen to death. They had been trying to get at the wires for about 3 hours now. In the middle of us talking a guy who used to be my best friend in childhood showed up, he lives across the street, joining into our conversation. He is a complete fucking stereotypical white English male, trying to hard to be a geezer. It hurts to listen to his bullshit sometimes. I have no problem with the guy other than the fact that he’s always trying way too hard. I mostly switch off and pretend to listen to him.

Me and this guy are discussing things from out childhood, my other friend is loud and talking to everyone as usual but if it shuts my old best friend up then I’m thankful for it. About 30 minutes later our lovely new Irish neighbor comes in, some how, suddenly every body becomes a racist. The friend with the annoying mother got bored and left. Come to think of it I should have done the same. I stayed to listen to them ranting about Africans and Pakistani’s being disgusting, rude, obnoxious and such. Sometimes they can be all of those things but that’s individual and you cannot generalize like that because they’re black or brown or whatever. That is when it gets stupid.

The guy who is trying too hard is in a rant about Pakistani’s when my friend brings up that his sister is dating one, he was being racist but I have to say listening to this guy’s story about how her dad said she’d shame the family was funny, here he is justifying himself to everyone in the group who have just spent the last 40 minutes making racist comments suprisingly without using the words nigger or paki. How they turk der jurbs and such. They finally get off of the subject of racism. The Irish guy goes away and I’m still listening to this guy trying too hard and about how his sister stopped eating pork because of her Muslim boyfriend. I could stop eating roast pork but never sausage and bacon, then I’d be screwed. Sure it is silly she stopped eating it because of him but it is her choice and I’m not even going to weigh in a well though out opinion with these idiots.

After four and a half hours of drilling the finally got into the cables and began a repair. After about another hour of listening to the guy trying to hard and my friend going back and forth about nothing, male posturing and all that bullshit a guy came around the corner and went into a large, green doored, electric room on our street, the light was put on in there and then 30 minutes later there was a flash that seemed to fill the street. The power had come back on and within seconds lights came on and various electric devices started making sounds. It all seemed so strange. Finally Captain try to hard went straight in as soon as the power went on, my friend went in too. It was like the whole evening had never happened, everyone back in their forts and not talking to each other again. Community spirit is non-existent in the shitty suburb of London in which I live.

I realized why I don’t and will not talk to my neighbors, they’re shallow, racist, boring, trying to hard, complaining bullshit wastes of time and energy. Next time we have a black out I’m staying indoors. I understand they’re pissed off with the habits of our foreign neighbors but their racism is pretty unfounded. It’s been about 30 hours since the blackout and I haven’t seen a single neighbor. Everything is back to normal and probably for the better. I can take them for who they are good or bad but I could never spend any extended period of time with them. The community was brought together by a blackout only for me to realize I really want nothing to do with them at all. I regret that I never took any pictures to be honest, I dislike my neighbors even more now.

I’m thankful this isn’t going to be a common occurrence.
