Rick and Morty, people and Fandom.

So many years ago someone I knew posted a cover photo on shitbook, an animated picture of a garage open in the moonlight. I knew it was from a show but I’m not one for watching television to be honest. I started looking at Reddit again out of boredom a while back and through Reddit became aware of Rick and Morty. Reddit being Reddit I assumed this was another circle-jerk, which to be accurate, it was.

That put me off of watching it for a long while, Reddit has a tendency to circle-jerk over things that aren’t that funny so I basically couldn’t be bothered. Eventually a friend showed me a few clips during a Friday night, the next night I ended up watching some myself. Two weeks later I found myself bored so I decided to watch a few episodes one night.

A few episodes turned into three quarters of season one, I finished the last quarter a day later. Onto season two which I watched in one night, ending up awake until around 4am. A week ago I got to season 3 episode 4 and in a way I’m glad I haven’t been watching the show the whole time because I haven’t waited for a new season until the current one is over.

The only thing I dislike about Rick and Morty is the pseudointelectuals within the fan base, other than that it’s a very enjoyable show. This lukewarm helping of copypasta will demonstrate the kind of pseudointellectual shit I’m talking about:

The other thing that gets me is fan theories, I understand taking an educated guess at what might happen but developing entire theories around characters, who has that kind of time? I’d rather spend it doing something useful.

Game of thrones fans are definitely the worst so far, I’m not slating the show at all because I’ve enjoyed much of what I’ve seen. Honestly I just don’t have the staying power to sit and watch it, even if I don’t watch it there will be someone who will tell me about it either from the show or having read the books so I’m pretty caught up. I’m also aware that fans of the series really hate spoilers and will react angrily when exposed to them.

That’s another thing I don’t get, being super pissed off by spoilers… If someone is constantly spoiling it I can understand you would be irritated but still it’s funny how emotional people get over spoilers. I can hear spoilers or even read and still appreciate the execution of the scene. Each to their own I guess? I’m still not really one for watching shows but I’ve found something to pass time when I’m bored now.

Fan bases can be crazy. I cringe when I see something like a Rick and Morty tattoo, wearing merchandise or a stranger referencing it in hopes to get a laugh. The same way I cringe when I hear or see memes used IRL. I really enjoy the show myself but the boner Reddit has for Rick and Morty is colossal.

Speaking of fandom it’s ridiculous nowadays the people who have fans. YouTube personalities get fans and merch now. Then again a judge from a reality TV show can become president of the United States so…

Personally I hope the wait for the new season isn’t too long because it’s almost the end of the season. I’ve had archer suggested to me by a friend, another show the jerk is strong for. Bob’s burgers I’m not really sure about, saying that, I’ve never even watched more than a short clip or two and that failed to hook me in the way Rick and Morty did. I may end up giving it another chance at some point if I am bored and desperate enough.

I’m not sure if anyone here has heard of Ugly Americans? My ex girlfriend introduced me to it and we watched season one and I think season 2 but they never renewed it for whatever reason. I enjoyed passing time watching that. I hope they do renew it one day but I highly doubt it, which is a shame really.

For the first time in many years I’ve actually sat down and watched a show, which makes me hope it doesn’t fall into the same traps as many other well known animated comedy has. It’s a little early to say but for now we can only hope.

AM Hates: Katie Hopkins and so does everyone else!

Sometimes you look at someone on the television and think ‘Why are you expressing your opinion in front of an audience, what makes you so special, what the fuck do you do?’

This is why I’m not big on television, if I had lived in America I might have reached for the nearest gun and fired two shots into my TV in rage and disgust. (Always double tap.) Apparently all you have to do nowadays is win The Apprentice. (Edit: She didn’t even win it.) I didn’t know of this poor excuse for a human being until around about 12hrs ago and my life was richer for it. I’ve never heard so much shit from one person in all of my life. I spent about 10 minutes wondering if she was just a gimmick, there for shock value like Simon Cowell. That said at least Cowell is funny with it and has a good idea what he’s talking about. It’s almost like she tries to drop knowledge and truths on us during these discussions but she just reveals herself to be a terrible human being.

Firstly I’d like to say I feel sorry for her children. Work comes first and they all share one birthday at a convenient time for her and one cake? You can be an asshole to many people in your life but to your kids, that’s something else. I verily dislike this woman. She’s the kind of person who takes shots at people and groups for the sake of it. She was saying how she wouldn’t hire someone who is fat or has a tattoo and that she won’t allow her children to socialize with other children based on their economic class and name. She’s just a prick of a human being. It comes to something when you go onto Google, search her ‘Katie Hopkins Should…’ and the first two suggestions are ‘be shot/die.’ Some people try so hard to be controversial they just end up being annoying, I don’t think I’ve ever wanted to punch a woman in the face before…

I was going to write a long post about her but I don’t feel like getting irritated by her any longer, in a recent karmic shift she lost her column, unfortunately she’s still on the Today Show. There’s a reason I don’t watch that crap, now I will just instantly change the channel. How is she even on TV she may be business minded but she’s most of the things I hate in a person. One thing I’m comforted by is the fact that people like this come and go, we find them funny eventually, then they give us someone to hate and after that they burn out altogether. The sooner the better. I think the lesson we can learn from Katie Hopkins, as a society, is:

If you actually feel like viewing this deplorable excuse for a human being yourself look at her twitter page of ignorance or just Google her. I’d say she’s not worth the energy but this is a spectacle indeed. Really something you have to see for yourself. She’s about as pleasing to the eye as she is to the ears so avoid an Image search unless you really must. I can help wanting to slap the dumb fuck who impregnated  this piece of human detritus. I feel bad for those poor kids must be like North Korea at home. I mean I know some people’s work comes before their children, I find that wrong personally but even those people don’t let their work affect their children’s birthdays. Their parents may be absent but the kids still have their own personal day. How must those kids feel when their friends ask them and they have to explain that they all share one birthday? Their friends inform them this isn’t normal and they are instantly weird.

It’s sad but those kids will probably end up alienated because their mother is a bitch, hopefully they’ll grow up to hate her just like everybody else does. Bitch is unsuited to have children, if she wasn’t paid like she is social services might removed those damn kids from her custody and give them to their father. Sometimes mother doesn’t know best.

On the Connecticut school shooting.

On the day of the shooting I was having a pretty normal day until I looked at my Facebook Feed.  A friend I’d met while out drinking in America posted about how he was deeply saddened by a school shooting. I ask a few other people I know from America and I start to get reports that there was a shooting in Connecticut but no real details. I guess everyone was still reeling from what had happened, so I got on the internet and began to search it up. I expected maybe a high-school, technical college or university but not an Elementary School. It’d quickly turn into a dark day for myself and the rest of the world.

It turns out that this one mentally ill guy had decided to take his own mother out and killed a whole bunch of teachers and kids along with her. I find myself asking, how the fuck could you do something like that? I myself hate a lot about people and the world but I could never bring myself to hate children in 99% of cases so it bewilders me how you can be mean to a child let alone shooting one. I just don’t get it. I hear about shootings all the time but it rarely affects me in the way this has. I’m generally angry now, could mental health professionals have helped this guy? Did his mother’s pride or fear stop her from having him evaluated. Generally these behaviors don’t just manifest, there are warning signs. So many questions and so few answers. All I can really say is that this never should have happened. Anywhere. Ever.

I do not personally think that the right to own a weapon or defend yourself should be effected drastically by this tragedy. I think it is time for tighter controls on whom is allowed to own a gun, like a psych evaluation before someone is licensed and over stops and measured to ensure that possessing a gun is made harder to achieve. I know that these people would get a gun somewhere else but I think we should make it harder for those nut-jobs to get a gun legitimately so that no guilt can be place on the government or gun-shops for these tragedies when they do occur. If someone decides to get a gun illegally the fault doesn’t only fall on the murderer but the individual who sold him the weapon as well. I realize that making my views on gun control known at this point in time but I do feel that this tragedy should be something we can at least learn from, even if the lesson is a terrible one and the price so high.

Later on in disbelief I watch Obama’s speech about it and I think I share in the disbelief of the American people on this sad occasion. They were just kids… I really can’t believe someone would actually do this. I’ve heard a lot of words in the wake of this disaster, words of anger, words of despair and words of sorrow and of condolence but of all of them this one makes the most sense to me. This is in response to the question ‘Why did this happen?’ Something we’ve all been wondering.

“It’s because of the way the media reports it, Freeman says. Flip on the news and watch how we treat the Batman theater shooter and the Oregon mall shooter like celebrities. Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris are household names, but do you know the name of a single *victim* of Columbine? Disturbed people who would otherwise just off themselves in their basements see the news and want to top it by doing something worse, and going out in a memorable way. Why a grade school? Why children? Because he’ll be remembered as a horrible monster, instead of a sad nobody. CNN’s article says that if the body count “holds up”, this will rank as the second deadliest shooting behind Virginia Tech, as if statistics somehow make one shooting worse than another. Then they post a video interview of third-graders for all the details of what they saw and heard while the shootings were happening. Fox News has plastered the killer’s face on all their reports for hours. Any articles or news stories yet that focus on the victims and ignore the killer’s identity? None that I’ve seen yet. Because they don’t sell. So congratulations, sensationalist media, you’ve just lit the fire for someone to top this and knock off a day care center or a maternity ward next. You can help by forgetting you ever read this man’s name, and remembering the name of at least one victim. You can help by donating to mental health research instead of pointing to gun control as the problem. You can help by turning off the news.”

This might not cover the reasons for the shootings but whoever this is has a point about how this should be dealt with in terms of reporting it to the public, maybe names shouldn’t be released until after the investigation. The way the Media deals with these situations is just plain wrong, they just want money. I understand that news is a business but its strange to see how their unethical practices don’t just affect celebrities but also victims of terrible shootings. Young victims nonetheless. They sell their stories as informative but really it’s more like gossip for profit, they talk about what is on everyone’s minds, they deliver semi accurate answers to the big questions in society. Then again, why am I surprised? The media have been sickening me since before I can remember.

Later on I was surfing the Internets, as you do, and I came upon a thread that informs me the Westboro Baptist Church is planning to picket the Connecticut victim’s funerals. That instantly pissed me off, how can anyone do this? I know the Westboro Baptists were a bunch of assholes but I didn’t think they’d touch this with a ten foot pole. I learned a lot about them, apparently the higher levels in the church are lawyers and they pay for their little ‘protests’ when people react and punch them in the face, which we’re in no doubt that they deserve, they file suits and sue this funds their outings. People wanted to beat them, shoot them, have the police remove them among many other colorful things involving ‘crucifying the bastards.’  I cannot blame these people for their anger, it is justified. Ignoring them would only work half of the time but whatever you do they’ll get attention because of……….The Media, you guessed it!

I began to wonder if a local emergency law could be passed banning protests. Even better if Obama could give a speech at the funeral service, I’m sure you aren’t able to protest within the vicinity of the President or Secret Service. Either way something has to be done. Then we had people defending the right to free speech under the first amendment, not because they supported the church but because they were afraid of their right to free speech would be taken away. I had someone arguing that if WBC were escorted out of the vicinity of the media and the grieving families then what would stop this happening to anyone else. I fail to see how a one time event would impact your civil liberties you concerned ass. In case you forgot a lot of people, kids and adults died and are being laid to rest, I think you can make a little concession for a few damn hours to let these people have closure and peace. It doesn’t take a psychologist to tell you that WBC members protesting at their funerals will have a general negative impacts.

When does Free Speech become a Hate speech?
It doesn’t take a genius to see that the Westboro Baptist Church is a hate group and should be treated as such. They target anyone to get publicity. I’d go as far as to call them opportunist vermin. How can we possibly protect such profanity and bullshit under free speech. It shouldn’t happen but I’m bracing myself for the possibility it will. I hope not, for the parents, for the children, for the relatives and for everyone. They’re not the smartest at WBC but they should be smarter than to fuck with grieving men and woman who have just lost children. I don’t condone violence against these fucking idiots but what they get is what they deserve.  They’re disgusting and its an outrage that they should be able to protest a funeral at all.

On a positive note Anonymous have posted details of the WBC online, so they’ll be getting a call from anonymous at some point soon. I do not condone illegal activities but I cannot help but empathize with their cause.

My misanthropy has hit a high listening to people dither around when there is a clear answer to what must be done here, the solutions and safeguards are available but nobody is implementing. Suddenly we are worried about the rights of a hate group over the rights of the grieving families dealing with the aftermath of a massacre. It’s really disgusting to me. Other than that it is just sad, a terrible thing that never should have happened. One thing that did shine through was the actions of that teacher who hid her class and sacrificed herself in order to save the children. It convinces me that despite the nut-jobs, assholes and detritus there are some good people in the world. I honestly wish I had never read that first Facebook post of the day.

What the **** am I paying for?

This Feel

This Feel

TV licensing. What exactly am I paying for.
High quality public broadcasting I’m told but I don’t see any high quality television coming from the basic BBC channels or any other basic channels. Sure they’ve improved the service and we now get something called free sat which is a digital service with more basic (Read: Crap) channels. What I do see is us paying for the BBC to deny and cover up the actions of pedophiles like Jimmy Saville.

It costs £149.50 in one hit, £37.45 quarterly or six monthly payments of £24 then £12 for the next month. The first six months are going but they’re still telling us to pay £24 a month. What a joke, they will even try to send you to prison if it isn’t payed. The real joke is that you still have to pay £50 if your TV is black and white. I don’t know why they’d even charge for that. Anyone who owns a black and white TV is over 65 or a god damn hipster, why charge old people for that?

Their website says ”All of this content – and the television channels, radio stations and online spaces where audiences can find it – is paid for by the license fee, allowing BBC’s UK services to remain free of advertisements and independent of shareholder and political interest. We aim to collect the fee efficiently and fairly in order to deliver value for money for license fee payers. In 1991 collection costs came to 6.2% of the total fee collected. By 2009/10 we had reduced this to 3.5%, allowing more money to go towards new content and services.”

Firstly the BBC being free of political interests is the biggest pile of crap I have ever heard. Just look at their reporting on the government. The government of the day funds the BBC as far as I am aware and you rarely see a negative report about the current government unless it’s a scandal or something. You cannot in good faith tell me that the BBC is outside of political interests/influence. The other thing is that they aim to keep public services free of advertisement. I see a lot of advertisements…

It shows a whole list of services and channels, apparently the TV license also covers a range of radio stations, this is all well and good but I may watch BBC one, two and three occasionally. I do not listen to any BBC radio stations because they are mostly boring. I do not use BBC i player. Most people I know rarely use any BBC services or watch any channels besides BBC Three for shows like Family Guy, American Dad and an idiot abroad. If you have cable like everyone else you probably have FX in which case BBC Three becomes completely useless to you because newer episodes are on FX.

Why can’t I just pay for what I use?
It’d be easier on our pockets as a nation and hopefully it would kill crappy television because they’d run out of funding for shitty channels. I’m sure the people who decided what is going to be aired are so far removed from the wants of the general public that almost half of BBC programming is irrelevant to the populace. The

TV licensing isn’t worth £145.50 a year, with the content and services we’re getting and what we actually use it should be between £90-100. Again, what the **** am I paying for and why do I bother. Come to think of it I know someone who didn’t pay due to financial problems and they were taken to court and given a £3000 fine for not paying £145. Fucking Nazis.

Boredom and entertainment.

Posted in Music, Smoking, Technology, The Internet. with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , on April 15, 2012 by MISANTHROPIST

As I get older it seems that things aren’t as entertaining as they used to be. I really don’t get much joy out of most methods of entertainment. I still enjoy music and I’ll occasionally listen to the radio (That makes me sound old considering I don’t own a car.) Radio gets really repetitive after a while. I should probably read more.

Gaming and Games console in general seem to have gone to crap, there are few titles that I still play but most aren’t worth playing. I rarely play games on my pc and I’d sooner shoot myself in the face than play MMORPG’s. When an MMORPG my life is officially over The gaming industry went to shit a long time ago, now the generic games are Call of Duty: Grenade, grenade, grenade and various call of duty clone. I’m not into racing games or playing sport on a games console so my gaming is limited to the occasional RPG and Shooters. I found myself addicted to Fallout: New Vegas because it offers something different, I enjoyed it for a while but now playing it is torturous. I barely play games consoles as it is and I think I’ll be playing them a lot less.

My internet usage involves a few sites, male standards and all. I’ll look things up, read news articles. I read the guardian, daily mail and chicago tribune online. I used to visit sites for humor but they have definitely taken a dive of late. I’ll check for updates on the blogs I read, post here and check my email. I’ll check my Facebook for what it’s worth. I’m really starting to hate it. I don’t really have a good reason to hate it yet, it’s gotten to the point where I don’t really read any updates besides the 3 that actually matter to me. There’s either a distinct lack of decent sites to visit these days or I’m not looking in the right places. The internet is 90% pornography anyway.

I’ll watch TV sometimes. We got rid of a few channels a year or so back because we were paying for nothing. It seems as if we got rid of all the decent channels. I watch a few drama, by a few I mean like three. I’ll catch reruns of scrubs. My television watching has been largely uninteresting for a very long time usually its factual or comedy. In fact it’s a common complaint of mine that we have hundreds of channels and there’s nothing on. Most of the time I won’t even bother turning it on anymore.

I could smoke but it probably isn’t a good idea I could even drink but again not a good idea. I’ve noticed as I’ve gotten older that I have extremely poor tolerance of boredom. That’s really not a good thing. I could grab a doobie and watch television for hours if I were stoned but alas I’m not. There really isn’t much to do at all. Saying that, last week I watched a documentary about China and the surrounding area. The show focused on nature mainly. Since I was 6 I’ve enjoyed nature documentaries, mainly by David Attenborough. I especially loved his Blue planet series. This is an example of decent television. Not soaps like Eastenders, Big brother or Britain lacks talent.

I judge it as good tv because it made me think, I went away and researched more and more on the area and it kept me up reading articles on the net till 4am. I don’t sleep normally and I’m pretty happy to spend my night learning and reading up on my various curiosities. This leads me to believe that maybe, with proper use, I can be entertained by television and the internet. My book pile isn’t getting any smaller so if I find that there is no intellectually stimulating material on the television then I should really read.

I’m actually considering not watching tv at all if I can’t find more interesting documentaries because what’s the point of watching reruns of Family Guy?
It was funny in the beginning but now it’s very boring and extremely repetitive.
I need to use the internet and television properly. I find a little educational material far more rewarding than an hour of comedy that I’ve already seen. Unfortunately decent documentaries aren’t always on. I think I need to get Netflix.
