London attack

Posted in Death, England, Terrorism with tags , , , , , , , on March 23, 2017 by MISANTHROPIST

I haven’t written a post about any current event for a long time, unfortunately the one time I do it’s a terrorist attack. Thankfully nobody I know was harmed, very few harmed at all. I imagine that’s no condolence for the families of those killed yesterday. Fortunately officers managed to lay him the fuck out before he could kill anybody else.

The sun came up today and London continued as it would on any other day. It’s just a shame that we live in a world where this sort of thing is a possibility. That said Trump taking Khan’s comments out of context… unfortunately we live in a world where President Trump is also a possibility. I’m too focused on cleaning the shit in my own backyard to offer my condolences to those who did not vote for him. At least your President was voted for.

In the wake of this attack I am left with many questions. Questions about the nature of the attack itself, what new measures will be put in place under ‘national security.’

Then there’s Facebook, the filter which I personally find half assed as a show of unity. Solidarity just a click away but hey whatever makes people feel better. Then there’s the whole report yourself as safe feature, never seen this one before. The idea in principle is a good one but if you’re unemployed and from Watford I know you’re safe.

I also feel for the Muslim people of this country who will suffer abuse as a result of this attack. It’s a virtual certainty, just as Europeans suffered abuse after the leave vote. I haven’t really checked the news since, I’m waiting for more information to come out regarding the perpetrator, sources to be corroborated etc. News that I did read in the immediate aftermath was chaotic to say the least. I’ve created a terrorism category for this blog, I hope this is the only post under it.

I wish the injured a speedy recovery and my thoughts are with the families of those killed. As attacks go this is minor but to the families of those killed it’s life changing. I commend the actions of the officer who swiftly dealt with the threat and prevented greater loss of life.

The raid.

Posted in Business, Legal, Work with tags , , , , on September 4, 2016 by MISANTHROPIST

To preface this story: I arrived to work normally, rolled and smoked a cigarette while talking with my colleagues. I had noticed a police van waiting in the car park across from us, not looking but definitely in waiting. A colleague dismissed this by saying there was an incident at the local underground station. I thought nothing more of it…

So I got in, logged in, checked my email, logged into our system, opened the various spreadsheets, logged into recruitment resources and took first orders from my boss. Expecting a standard day of course. As I got the order the police and two alphabet soup agencies came busting through the door with the poor receptionist who didn’t know what to do. It was obviously a raid.

The told us to get off our computers leave everything logged in. We locked our computers and got up. We were rounded into a conference room where someone from the alphabet spaghetti agency told us we had to give a statement. We work with the law, we are not stupid. It was voluntary and therefore I’m not giving them a statement.

Your dealings with the company are nothing to do with me. I asked to go to my desk obviously requiring an escort but I found I had collected my effects beforehand so I then exited the building. Between that the lady from alphabet soup agency was fishing for information. I put and end to that quickly.

I stayed that my colleague, the IT admin had consented to giving them the master logins a few minutes ago in front of my face when she was present so what reason did she have to ask. She then went on to ask about our logins to which I replied I don’t know my log in as its auto filled. I’m not being obtuse, I just don’t have to remember it.

I know what all this is about, I believe it’s in regards to unethical marketing. The service provided is legitimate. We are basically getting fined on violations. It sucks but at least I got the day paid I guess. Saying that it has put me very much behind in my work. Some people are very particular about their appointments.

They really thought they could trick their way into getting statements by masquerading as if we were under arrest or being detained. That’s sad. The police officers looked annoyed, bored and everything in between. I feel for them because it’s a total waste of time. They’re just muscle and as cliche as it is they could be solving real crimes. Not stupid trade violations.

There was no threat of violence, a chance sure but no real or perceived  threat from anyone working there. Management or otherwise. I felt sorry for one alphabetty spaghetti agent who had to follow and watch a senior management member have a cigarette. When my job drags I will remember him. It’s funny that they treat us like criminals. I’m the wolf of what street exactly?

They took what they wanted, paper, passwords, servers and whatever else the warrant gave the access to. So now ive had an extra wasted day. I wasted 2 hours the previous day listening to a complicated case we can’t touch. My fuck up. Someone else will get that business and she will get her dues. I hope she does.

You can imagine what today was like. Running a day behind, at a loss. Missing information, a system reset, it’s been crazy. I’m still recruiting and catching up on caseloads, closing cases. Accepting and rejecting case based on liability, legal quantum and other factors.

I had to explain to my colleagues that they’re not after you but rather the company you are employed by. Someone then saw it fit to inform me he had been carrying lots of weed. Close to a pound in fact. Not an issue for the business but a problem for him because of the police presence.

I advised that they couldn’t search his handbag without suspicion. The warrant was unrelated. I came in the next day and a lot of our computers and servers were gone, a day behind and I had to make up my appointments, any face to face meetings I had. Now it’s just a matter of catching up and waiting for the fine to land on our doorstep.

All in all it was an interesting day.

GTA V

The big one, a lot of people have been waiting for this for a very long time. Having earned around about £500,000,000 in its first 24hrs you know Rockstar have outdone themselves. Lately I’ve needed a distraction, I’ve been pretty social because of that, my journey of distraction took my to my friend’s house whom had acquired the game within the first few hours of release. There are a lot of people who will line up outside of a store for a midnight release, I am no one of those people. I’ll would rather wait a few days or a week to avoid crowds of entitled 13-17 year olds. As you can guess we spent the entire night playing the game and it struck me enough to go out and buy a game, something I haven’t done since Hitman Absolution was released.

Since that hazy evening in a small East-London maisonette I was determined to get this game and believe me it cleared the shelves quicker than I had imagined, I actually had to make calls regarding availability to avoid traveling miles to get it. All my local stores had either closed down or were sold out. It took almost five days to acquire but it was totally worth it. I found the missions interesting, the characters endearing (yes even the raging psychopath) and Rockstar hasn’t lost its trademark wit. This game has had me go wtf, laugh my ass off and generally lose hours to it. This is the first game in years to completely live up to the hype surrounding it. As I said before Rockstar have outdone themselves.

I’ve played the introduction and a few later missions, It wasn’t exactly my intention to play the later missions but when it’s 3am and your friend is sleeping because he’s got a hard day busting his ass in construction, what can you do? I wasn’t going to walk home for another few hours and I certainly wasn’t going to sit quietly in the dark or watch shitty television. So I had little choice, I really can’t stand boredom and this game definitely alleviates it. It is because this game is so good at killing time that I haven’t steamrolled through it yet. My little slice of hell is long and slow so I need all the distractions I can get.

gFPFiFyThis picture describes the cops on this game perfectly, they are fucking robocops alone and even worse in numbers greater than two. These cops are damn near omniscient. Then again people would have complained if the cops were easily slaughtered. The AI improvements are amazing and even though they are amazingly efficient the game is realistic enough to allow you to attempt to hide from police rather than fight them so I guess the real world physics and tactics make up for the fact that you’re being tailed by about 8 terminators.

The living world in this game is amazing, I’ve already been brutalized by a cougar after escaping from police in Blaine County. I’ve seen enough of the terrain to say that this entire game is visually beautiful. I also enjoy how random happenings can coincide with a crime you’re committing or just your journey from A to B. I’ve been stripped, robbed and woke up naked on train tracks with all my stuff gone. It is an interesting little touch that the protagonist can become a victim of crime themselves at any one point. The living world will give you about as much shit as you have given it. There will be a few moments where the game will take you completely by surprise.

My single complaint about it is the car problem where your personally modified vehicle disappears from your garage. This was quite annoying to me but apparently Rockstar are working at a fix if they haven’t come up with one already.  My general consensus on GTA V is that it is well worth your money wherever you are in the world, even places like AUS where prices are extortionate. This game was worth the wait and definitely worth parting with your money.

The Treyvon Martin Case

You know something? I really didn’t want to write about this. I didn’t even really follow it but of late the case has been unavoidable even for someone who doesn’t watch the news. By now I’ve heard so many conflicting news stories and accounts its quite hard to make any sense of it at all. I wonder if the case notes are available so I can get some established facts. I have a rough idea but that’s hazy at best. It’s sad that it’s so hard to get reliable information because getting the big scoop was made a competition by greedy bastards in the media. It’s no longer about the facts, it’s about breaking the story before anyone else and reporting things that barely stand as facts. As you can tell I lost faith in the media a long time ago.

This whole case is messed up, I think that even if Treyvon attack Zimmerman his reaction was extreme and beyond the realm of reasonable force. Even if Treyvon was in the wrong in whatever he did, shooting him dead was unwarranted. Nothing in terms of innocence or guilt can be established by any evidence I’ve seen. One thing I will say is that Martin’s race should have nothing to do with this trial unless Zimmerman was heard hurling racial slurs at him before shooting him dead. I mean I’ve seen a lot of people looking at this in terms of a white on black crime when Zimmerman is Hispanic and doesn’t even pass for white.

Some people like to say that they don’t see color but that is crap. Everyone see’s color it’s a visible difference and it isn’t just skin deep, bone structure and facial structure is also visibly different between races, everybody notices that. People laugh and joke to each-other about certain stereotypes every single day, all over the world and in the next breath they’ll try to tell you they don’t see color. The differences are there. Don’t pretend they aren’t. What we should be doing is viewing each-other as human beings. Sure you’re Black, White, Asian, Indian or whatever but you’re a human being. We have differences but we’re all of the same species. We could do to remember that.

The thing that is really annoying the fuck out of me right now is that despite the fact that Zimmerman is Hispanic people view this as a white on black crime because they want to. Certain people seem to want this event to be linked to race. Anyone trying to pull the race card on this one is an idiot. The other thing that annoys me is that you people care so much about this ‘race related crime’ but black guys are dying on the street every day in black on black crime and nobody seems to give a fuck. Does it get National attention? or International attention for that matter? No. People only care because they believe race has something to do with this.

Screw the poor dude whose mother had to work fifty plus hours a week to keep him fed, who suffered because his teachers didn’t give a damn, whose poor education and prospects made it hard to get a job, the man who turned to crime to eat and who was killed on the street over a stupid amount of money or drugs. Or maybe the guy who was robbed at gunpoint for his chains, who decided he wasn’t going to get taken by some punks and was shot dead. No, nobody gives a fuck about those guy. The best part is this doesn’t have to be a black guy I’m talking about, you can apply this concept to any race. People make me sick.

Another thing, why can’t we just use our fists for a fair fight? Or non lethal personal defense weapons?
Why do we resort to guns to solve conflicts? I’m not saying guns are bad here. I enjoy shooting myself and there are situations where you are given no other choice but to resort to lethal force but an unarmed youth attacking you doesn’t warrant that kind of response. Sure whack him with a personal defense weapon but shooting?
The age of fighting fair is long gone it seems. Personally, in exceptionally rare circumstances I will fight someone in defense but even I can’t be sure if the guy I’m about to hit has a knife, any altercation is risky so in my opinion it is best to end it as quickly as possible. Guns on the street are a rarity here as you know but we have a huge knife problem in London.

This case should prompt us to ask real questions about our society and people’s perceptions of race, race related crimes and people’s assumptions. This is a big problem across the board. I find it funny how a case like this brings out the worst in all of us. We can’t come together and make a logical decision about this case from the facts. Everybody can’t help but read into it. I’ve seen white people and black people doing it. It’s sad and it’s why race is still a psychological division. Racial separation exists and will continue to exist in one form or another for a long time, maybe even forever. We as sentient beings have some very fucked up perceptions of each-other, as cliché as this sounds we all bleed red.

Back to the case it seems like Zimmerman is an overzealous asshole, the parts I’ve read about Treyvon telling Zimmerman ‘you’re going to die tonight’ is just Zimmerman’s word. I see he was knocked around pretty bad but I’m sure if Zimmerman had enough time to grab his gun from the holster he most likely could have pointed it at Treyvon. I don’t see Martin going for the gun if it is pointed directly at him. He’s a kid not a navy seal. I don’t really know what to believe but I’m convinced this could have been solved without Martin being killed. If Zimmerman hadn’t followed Martin in the first place this incident could have been avoided in its entirety. Even if Martin was guilty of whatever, he didn’t directly hurt Zimmerman or destroy his property so Zimmerman should let the police do their damn job.

I’m not convinced Treyvon was a saint. No kid is. The more I read it seems like Zimmerman is a wannabe cop. Constantly calling the police and reporting suspicious events, sounds like he was pissed off with crime in his neighborhood and unsuccessfully attempted to take the law into his own hands which resulted in an unlawful killing of a man, innocent or not. I believe Zimmerman should be charged with second degree murder at least since there are so few solid facts. Even if this was in self-defense it was still an unlawful and totally avoidable killing. That is my opinion.

Oh and have you heard everyone suddenly has a law degree?
This case is messed up enough but people’s reactions to it have been completely deplorable people both black and white should be ashamed that they even attempted to pull race into this. I don’t mean all of you but you know the ones, the loud mouthed idiot on Facebook claiming that Zimmerman got away with it because he was white or Zimmerman was right to shoot Treyvon because he was an intimidating black youth in a hood. Isn’t it funny how you’re not only racially stereotyped by so many people, then just to make it even more ridiculous you are automatically a thug because you wear a hood.

We have this problem in England too, for example I can’t go into a mall wearing a hood. There are actually laws against wearing hoods in public areas because people are afraid. That seems to be a main theme too, fear. People are not only afraid of other races but also items of clothing now too! I can’t help but look at this issue as a whole and see how stupid it is, don’t misunderstand that as me saying the whole issue of racism is not a serious thing but what I am saying is that if we didn’t make it such an issue. All of us, then race wouldn’t matter beyond being a physical difference. It would not cause these social issues that we’re seeing now.

I see now more than ever just how pathetic we can be, there’s so much wrong here. This case, people in general. I can’t even be asked to talk about it anymore. It’s just sad. The worst in humanity has come out over the course of this case. Zimmerman killed a man and justice may have failed but this doesn’t warrant people’s extreme reactions. This is sad event the entirety of it from the murder to the trial’s outcome, right through to the extreme reactions and hypocrisy. Like I said before nobody ever got up in arms over the black guy that was shot last night for his chains or because he wore the wrong colors because you all expect that stuff to happen, in fact it seems almost normal. All of you are so desensitized to daily crime and violence that it only matters when people think race was involved. In the words of a friend ‘ why can’t people just leave each-other the fuck alone?’

The thing is he’s right, if people left each-other the fuck alone nobody would be dead right now. People disgust me sometimes. Level with me here: Another Human Being Was Killed That Day. Why should it matter what color he was. He has a family, friends and he has left people behind. Try to remember that.

People are still disgustingly idiotic and hypocritical. That’s news to nobody.

Olympic Madness.

Posted in England, London 2012, Misanthropy with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on August 9, 2012 by MISANTHROPIST

I recently saw a newspaper article about an olympic spectator with Parkinson disease who was arrested by officers of the Surrey police force for not smiling in a disproportionate response to a perceived threat. Are we really that paranoid right now?

I supposed our paranoia is warranted judging by another news report I read about a man sneaking de-activated weaponry through olympic security to prove its flaws.  This man, arrested by police is an ex-soldier and martial arts instructor aged 54 who hardly fits the bill for a terrorist. Especially the current breed. Why didn’t the police just pull him aside and ask him if he was alright, I’m sure that would be sufficient to tell if he harbored any ill will.

Then I read that the man had a number of knives on him which turned out to be rubber and for display, presumably for martial arts purposes. So first I ask myself why the harsh response from police but then I wonder why he would think it a good idea to take rubber knives into an olympic event. What damage could he do with a rubber knife?
Bear in mind the only description I got was a ‘Rubber knives for display purposes.’

I’m not sure what is more idiotic, the response of the police or the guy bringing rubber knives into a major event with him, I’m not going to forgive him because of Parkinson’s because bringing rubber knives into an olympic event is not a symptom. Then again how far has his Parkinson’s progressed, not far if he is going to major sporting events alone. I know Parkinson’s can cause someone to act differently than normal but it looks like in a major sporting event that unusual behaviour can cause you to be arrested.

I went into this thinking the police over-reacted but now I’m not 100% sure of the either side. Either way the whole situation is madness.
