The Parson’s Green terror attack.

Posted in London, Terrorism, The Media, Travel with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , on September 18, 2017 by MISANTHROPIST

As you’re no doubt aware London has been subjected to another terrorist attack, an explosive device placed by the doors of a train during a busy period. The attack would have been quite effective had everything gone to plan, which thankfully it did not. The device used was quite primitive and I believe it ended up detonating earlier than intended. I’m also surprised that nobody was killed in the ensuing panic.

We only have to look at the blitz in London to know how deadly a human stampede can be in an underground station. The metropolitan police quickly apprehended the suspect. The bomb itself only injured people leaving a few with burns which is better than the alternative. The device was contained inside a bucket stored within a Lidl bag which it barely managed to destroy.

A Reddit user was quoted saying

Marvel at the durability of Lidl plastic bags which are powerful enough to withstand the explosion of a bomb. German engineering.

As usual the English are already making jokes about the situation. Even I must admit this is like the worst terrorist attack ever which is actually a good thing. I think many Londoners share this sentiment. We’re bored of this shit now. I wouldn’t say it’s become a norm but it is definitely something we have come to expect every once in a while. A sad reality and result of conflicts in the Middle East.

On the other side I’ve seen pictures of London mayor Siddique Khan holding a Lidl bag on the tube with a caption ‘we know who really did it.’ On one side I’m actually happy with our response to the attacks against our city and on the other I’m disappointed by things like that. That doesn’t seem to represent a majority of us but still a fairly significant portion.

On the terror attacks and being sick of them, I often hear of some incident and turn check the BBC with a reaction something like the image below.

I do understand that solving the issues caused in the Middle East and their repercussions here at home will take decades, the problem isn’t going to just go away. I can only hope we become more effective at preventing these attacks without that leading to further breaches of our rights and privacy by the wicked witch of Westminster.

Looking at the attack itself and the results there’s nowhere near the kind of tension in the air that there was after the previous attacks, back then I could pop a packet of crisps on a bus and people probably would have hit the deck or ran for their lives. This attack is mediocre in comparison. I doubt ISIS will even want to claim responsibility for these. Sometimes the way they operate reminds me of franchise restaurants, like the Subway of terrorism.

Another concerning phenomena is the use of acid to attack people, it seems to have grown far more widespread suddenly. In a rare and useful move the government is pushing for harsher laws for those who attack others with acid and I believe considering a database/licensing for the purchase of acid, a move which to me seems quite reasonable.

Shooting someone, stabbing someone or beating someone sure I can understand. These are pretty par of the course but to throw acid at someone implies a special kind of hatred or callousness. You don’t kill them but essentially ruin their entire lives even if they’re not blinded by it. Those people deserve life sentences. Speaking of stabbing the number of knife related incidents seem to have gone up as well as racially related attacks.

You get those moments where you think the world has gone mad, where you’d rather not turn on the news because all you’ll hear is depressing shit from home or some other part of the world that their is nothing in you can do about. I don’t tend to ignore these things even if they are uncomfortable because I like to stay informed but I can understand people who do.

It’s a relief that this guy was such a shit terrorist his device could barely destroy a Lidl bag or we would need body bags right now.

XFM-Radio X

Posted in The Media with tags , , , , , , , , on October 27, 2015 by MISANTHROPIST

Maybe I’m getting old, here I am complaining about a radio station and changes made to it. Recently my favourite radio station, XFM, changed to radio X. Now, don’t mistake me for someone who generally dislikes change because that is not the case. I dislike change when it’s for the worst and ruins my favourite radio station.

It used to be the best radio station on air, to be realistic it suffered problems with repetition but the hosts in the morning were great entertainment. Weird little segments, great interaction in the form of pranking those who wake up at 7 with believably hilarious fake news stories.

In short I’ve never laughed so much in the morning and the interactions between the hosts made it even better. It’s kind of sad to see what it has become. I’ve heard a few new tracks since the change but my main issue is that they’ve gotten in new and shitty hosts. Secondly they’ve put the best hosts on late night now.

I don’t get to laugh in the morning anymore, it was a nice way to wake up and a part of my morning routine for years. I’ll miss it a lot. I’m starting to wonder if the new incarnation of the station is an embodiment or reflection of the ‘lad culture’ I so deeply despise.

Either way I find myself barely listening now, scrolling through the news on my phone. Trust life to go fuck up a good thing. I am displeased to say the least. I’m pretty sure radio is dead to me.

Advertising.

I’ve mentioned before that I listen to the radio, usually before work and if I need some kind of background noise. I listen almost exclusively to XFM. Worth checking out. I’ve never laughed so much, so early in the morning, in my life. I’ll get to the point now, I find this particularly irritating.

We’re no strangers to advertising, we’re bombarded by it on a daily basis. From loan adverts on television to fast food and even painted murals advertising Pitu cachaça on a wall in the north of Brazil. Even North Koreans have to deal with advertisements detailing the glorious leader’s glory. Advertisement is inescapable.

What I find irritating is when the advertisers directly target the youth, the way they do it is almost insulting to me. I’m not quite young but still considered so and personally I find their targeted advertisement insulting. I don’t know if it says something about my generation and the ones after it or I’m actually justified in my hatred of this kind of advertising.

I’m aware this isn’t a new phenomena but at least it was toned down before and confined to specific products where both the product and pitch would appeal to the target audience. They seem to be using rap, rhyme and flow to market everything from lucozade to KFC. Every other advertisement is written in rhyme or includes beat boxing or some kind of reference to the urban music scene.

You rhyming to me about how I have more sense than money or how 1066 went down just makes me cringe or switch off. I do wonder how fans of grime and hip hop take to this kind of advertisement. I wonder if they cringe as I do. It’s so low-brow it’s almost insulting. I hope this trend dies very soon.

I guess it makes it easier to follow for stupid people. I hope intelligent fans of grime, hip-hop, beat boxing and urban music find this sort of thing as annoying as I do. Surely you can market your damn product on merit of it’s quality or some other selling point… It seems so lazy. Might as well have a half naked woman telling you about how she always drinks lucozade when she’s tired.

What a crock of shit…

Why is it unacceptable to listen to the radio nowadays?

Posted in The Media with tags , , , on November 25, 2014 by MISANTHROPIST

I constantly get shit from my girlfriend for listening to the radio, bear in mind that I listen to one station. It might be because I haven’t found a better one or that the hosts are the only people who can get a smile out of me first thing in the morning. XFM is a decent station, it’s had some great hosts over the years and they do things like fake news reports that are very cleverly crafted to be absurd yet believable. The music is pretty good though it has shifted to Indy which as a genre I’m starting to really hate. For the most part though, it is a great station. Maybe I get shit from her because she’s younger than me, I get a rather stereotypical reply ‘who listens to the radio anymore?’ then I fit into another stereotype by saying she’s probably to young to understand, she’s not that much younger than me so I have a really hard time understanding why her and others find listening to the radio so strange. Saying all that, not many people my age listen to the radio either. Find the right station and it really isn’t bad at all. As I said before I’ve never expected to laugh so much before 7am.

Give radio a chance, remember radio is not just for cars…

The Ebola Virus

Before we get into this post it is important that you understand what the Ebola virus disease is. It’s pretty damn scary I’ll give you that but not quite as scary as the media would have you believe. EVD is a serious illness that requires a serious response from healthcare providers, most of them poorly equipped and trained to deal with it. Nobody expected the outbreak to spread this far but with the advent of air travel disease pandemics are a stark reality that we should, by now, be prepared for. The Ebola Virus Disease, or EVD for short, is a disease that affects primates caused by the Ebola filovirus. Symptoms start between two to twenty-one days after contracting the virus, with a fever, sore throat, muscle pain, and headaches. Typically, vomiting, diarrhea, and rash follow, along with decreased function of the liver and kidneys. Around this time, affected people may begin to bleed both within the body and externally.

That said the hollywood bleeding from all orifices image you have in your head right now is a pretty rare occurrence, I read somewhere that it happens in very few cases. Bleeding does happen but it is rarely the horror movie-esque vision we’ve all come to associate with contracting EVD. The main thing that scares people is the lethality of this virus which is up to 70%. Usually this would be a blessing in disguise in that the virus would not spread very far but in the modern world the long onset of symptoms actually works in the virus favour. Think about it, how far could you travel by air within 20 days? An outbreak in Africa could reach Europe in that time and begin a brand new outbreak half way across the globe. Luckily the person isn’t very infectious before the onset of symptoms. If it was infectious before symptoms presented then the lethality of EVD would be unprecedented.

It is actually highly unlikely that a widespread outbreak would occur in Europe or the USA because of advanced medical infrastructure, sadly Africa will not fare as well. Another thing that is unfortunate is that due to the nature of the disease healthcare providers are the ones at the highest risk of contracting EVD, as we’ve seen recently in Europe and Africa it is usually the Doctors and Nurses who suffer at the hands of EVD when carrying out vital work to stabilize their patients.  One thing that really gets me is that the worlds response to Ebola has been piss poor. Nobody gave a damn when this began and now it’s on our doorstep, only now are we working toward a vaccine and/or cure for it. I’m guessing it was assumed it would burn out much like previous outbreaks. Well it didn’t and here we are, it angers me slightly that nobody is concerned until it is on their doorstep. Such is humanity.

I can’t believe how twisted some people’s perceptions have become, whether it’s from sensationalist headlines of blatant prejudice. The media’s understanding of EVD seems to be largely hollywood and if the media are being so blatantly idiotic I probably shouldn’t expect individuals to be much better, especially the uneducated ones. Most people are unaware that you’re more likely to die of aids than Ebola. I’ve heard all sorts of shit, mostly racist shit from idiots talking as if Africans are to blame for a virus that has been around for a long time, accusing Africans of bestiality and saying the Ebola serves them right. I can hardly believe my ears at times. I’ve even heard people talking of glassing Africa in general. Then again the stupidity isn’t exclusive of white people. Many uneducated Africans don’t even believe Ebola exists because they can’t see it, yet they believe in god. Double standards much? People in the in Europe and the US don’t have the excuse of lacking education though.

Many people fail to understand the reasons behind the latest Ebola outbreak, even the ones who aren’t stupid are plain ignorant of the situation in West Africa. Make no mistake, it is an absolute clusterfuck. I’ll try to explain it the best I can. The economic situation in many parts of Africa is pretty dire, so much so that many people cannot afford farmed meat. A traditional market exists for bushmeat which has boomed in the wake to economic downturn, after all, people need to eat and nobody expects them to starve. Traditionally the people who collect bushmeat are highly knowledgable of the animals they are collecting, they would spot a diseased animal and avoid it. With the boom in the bushmeat industry greedy or just plain desperate individuals have entered the industry who lack the specialist knowledge of the veterans and from that you get people picking up diseased meat.

In most cases it isn’t a problem if it is prepared properly but with something like EVD if you cut yourself while preparing the meat you contract Ebola. Back to the economic situation, Africa is ill-prepared to deal with something like Ebola. They lack equipment and training which leads to healthcare providers becoming infected. Healthcare workers dying means less people to treat the disease. It is unfortunate but the situation in Africa is becoming unmanageable if it isn’t already out of control. What doesn’t help, again, is the lack of education and suspicious nature of the locals. Surely you’ve heard of the people who broke into the Ebola clinics and stole soiled bedding while releasing patients into a ghetto who will inevitably infect others in such cramped conditions. The whole situation is a clusterfuck and if we had gotten on top of it when it began we wouldn’t have three thousand plus dead on our hands.

I could hardly believe what I was seeing when a Fox News anchor was the voice of reason regarding the Ebola outbreak. That was something I thought I’d never see in my life time. Pigs can fly. I read somewhere that this Ebola outbreak started in 2013, so why does it take till 2014 and thousands of deaths to do something about it. That piss poor response coupled with people’s prejudices really annoys me. I’ve never been so ashamed of the people I live around. Is that person really promoting a genocidal ideology to stop the spread of Ebola? Their grandparents thought against fascism and this sort of shit and there they are condoning it. Ebola doesn’t discriminate, people do that. Shit like this feeds my misanthropy, there’s a part of me that believes the world would be a better place if they contracted Ebola but as I mentioned before Ebola won’t go out of its way to kill idiots.

I can only hope that we learn from this outbreak, lest it happen again with something far more contagious and lethal. This post probably came out nothing like I wanted it to be due to my becoming pissed off half way through writing it. I’ve wanted to write this for a while but couldn’t find a way to word it or set out the post.

The Fappening.

Posted in General, News, People, Social Media, The Internet., The Media, Unpopular Opinions., Useless information., women with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , on September 9, 2014 by MISANTHROPIST

Best name ever in my opinion. I hated that movie, I still refer to it as The Crappening. If you don’t know what the fappening is by now then you have probably been living under a rock. It’s the name for the huge leak of celebrity nudes from Apple’s Icloud. The photos of nude celebrities were leaked and the internet consequently had a shitfit. Mods and fappers alike worked around the clock to appease their sexual appetite or the lawyers depending on which side we’re talking about. I don’t know if there’s any truth to this but one Anon had mentioned that the loss in revenue from men who no longer have to sit through shitty movies to see their favourite stars tits and or ass. Apple did something right for once it would seem and anon may have had a point.

Then the SJW’s were up in arms about the invasion of privacy and photorape. Yes these people are deadly serious and, yes, I’m a total shitlord and the whole SJW movement is a sad joke that no one is laughing at anymore. I mean the invasion of privacy is a fair point but I’m sure those pictures become property of apple as soon as they’re uploaded to the cloud? I would say the most basic thing you could do in this situation is not take nudes or if you’re going to at least store them on a secure device that is in your ownership. I read somewhere that the trading of celebrity nudes had been going on for some time in private on the deep web, then someone in the ring decided to share with the rest of the world and the rest of the nudes were posted because they had been essentially devalued by being spread so widely about the internet. Pretty much like celeb nude trading cards. Whole sets were going for considerable sums of money.

I’m not really here to argue about celebrity and privacy, or the other moral/ethical questions posed by this leak because I really don’t care. I haven’t gone looking for them but I’ve seen three or four through secondary sources. I’m not really interested beyond laughing at the shit storm they caused all over the internet. It’s tits and ass, nothing I haven’t seen before. Why waste my time when I can, you know, just get laid. I felt like I was one of the few people who didn’t care two ways about the celebrity nudes. Everyone has been going on about them since zero hour. I think I actually went to bed early that night and woke up to the shitstorm.  One thing I found really amusing was the Daily (The world is burning) Mail calling 4chan everything under the sun. I’ve seen equally terrible shit on their rag.  One publication called 4chan the Mos Eisley cantina of the internet.

My point is this: 4chan has ruined lives. Some very deserving, others not so much. I mean the lives of terrible people and 14-year-old white girls alike. Nobody gave a shit when that happened, they shouldn’t have taken nudes etc. When it happens to a celebrity the white knights of the internet are up in arms with the SJW’s about how their rights were violated but they’ll resort to slut shaming some girl who took a couple of nudes for her boyfriend who leaked them. An innocent mistake. It serves her right for being an idiot they’ll say. Double standard much? If anything the celebrities, who are exposed to violations of their privacy regularly by the paparazzi, should know better or at least be aware of the possibilities that could arise from taking such images. It doesn’t make it any better but celebrities are not immune to stupidity. Just like you or I!

Another thing that really killed me was a US news outlet reporting that the photos were leaked by the hacker known as 4chan. There are only two words for this high standard of quality reporting: Epic Fail. It seems that the media is no more educated on the internet than it was 10 years ago.

I bet most of the aforementioned SJW’s and White knights have viewed the images extensively before jumping to defend the honor of their fair maidens.
